+Where is The Carter Center located?

The Carter Presidential Center is a 37-acre retreat located just two miles from downtown Atlanta, accessible via I-75/I-85 and John Lewis Freedom Parkway.

+Are there outdoor ceremony and reception options available?

The Carter Center does not allow events to take place outside on the grounds. However, the grounds are available for you and your guest to enjoy during your event and for engagement and wedding photos.

+How can I check availability for a date?

Please contact one of the Events office staff listed on the upper right corner of this page for availability.

+Are outside caterers permitted at your facility? Can I bring my own caterer or alcohol?

Proof of the Pudding is the exclusive caterer at The Carter Center. All food and beverage, including alcohol, must be provided by Proof of the Pudding. For information regarding menus and pricing, please contact our account executive listed under Exclusive Vendors located on the lower right corner of this page.

+What is the average size of a wedding at The Carter Center?

Ceremonies in the Cecil B. Day Chapel range from 70-300 guests and receptions in the Cyprus Room can accommodate up to 170 guests. Please see our wedding pricing (PDF) for a detailed list of room capacities and rental information for weddings at The Carter Center.

+What is included in the rental fee for the ceremony and reception spaces?

  • Experienced and knowledgeable event staff available for site visits, vendor recommendations and to work with your planner as the venue contact.
  • Access for up to eight hours on the day of your wedding.
  • Complimentary two hour rehearsal the evening before your wedding day.
  • Access to the private grounds for outdoor photos before and after the ceremony.
  • Setup and breakdown of all Carter Center property.
  • Basic audiovisual equipment.
  • Complimentary white linens for 6-foot guestbook, escort cards, DJ, gift and favor tables.
  • Trained special event volunteers to greet, direct, and assist with guiding guests through the building.
  • Dressing rooms for the bride, groom, and entire wedding party.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Security personnel on-site during your wedding.
  • Cleaning service during and after your wedding.
  • Exclusive audiovisual services provided by Lighting & Production Equipment (additional fees apply).
  • Exclusive catering by Proof of the Pudding.

+Can The Carter Center accommodate other wedding events?

Yes, there are event spaces available for rehearsal dinners, bridesmaids' luncheons, and gorgeous grounds for engagement photo sessions.

+Can I take engagement photos at The Carter Center?

Yes, the private grounds are available for scheduled engagement sessions for a separate fee. The public areas are open and available between 9:00 a.m-6:00 p.m. View map of the gardens (PDF) >

+Does The Carter Center provide a dance floor, decorations, specialty wedding chairs, and a wedding planner?

The Events Office will be happy to assist you with recommendations for these items, as they are not included with the space rental. A wedding planner is not required, but highly recommended for at least the day of the wedding. An Events staff member will be on site on the day of your wedding to work directly with your coordinator as the facility contact.

+How long will the spaces be available to our guests for the ceremony and reception?

Wedding ceremonies and receptions are based on an eight hour timeframe. Four hours for preparation and the ceremony and four hours for the reception. All vendors and guests must depart the premises by midnight.

+How can I reserve space and hold a date for my wedding?

Please fill out the reservation request form and an Events staff member will contact you to discuss availability and determine if you're ready for a contract or if you'd like to place the date on hold for a few weeks while you make a final decision on the venue.
