Bequests (Will Provisions)

A bequest to The Carter Center is a simple way to ensure that generations to come will benefit from the Center's work. By including "The Carter Center, Inc., Atlanta, Georgia" as a beneficiary in your will, you help to ensure the future of our efforts to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope. A bequest also may help to reduce estate taxes. Individuals who make provisions for The Carter Center through their wills are recognized with membership in the Carter Legacy Circle.

There are several ways a bequest may be structured - using a specific dollar amount, percentage, or asset. Or The Carter Center could be listed as a beneficiary of the remainder (residue), in whole or in part. To review or print out a list of sample bequest clauses,

If you already have an up-to-date will and wish to add The Carter Center as a beneficiary, this can be accomplished by the use of a document called a codicil, which your attorney can draft for you. A codicil allows you to make a simple change or addition to your will without redrafting the entire document.

Individuals should always utilize the services of a qualified attorney when drafting or redrafting a will or codicil. If you have questions about how to include The Carter Center in your will, please call Karen Price in The Carter Center's Office of Gift Planning at (800) 550-3560, ext. 860, or send an e-mail
