Carter Center Charitable Donations - Carter Legacy Circle
Also called "deferred gifts," planned charitable giving allows you to provide long-term support for The Carter Center — unique among world aid agencies — while retaining control of assets or increasing liquidity for yourself and/or loved ones during your lifetimes.
Individuals who make planned Carter Center charitable donations are recognized with membership in the Carter Legacy Circle.
Those who give planned charitable donations enjoy the satisfaction of advancing the long-term goals of The Carter Center. They also enjoy the financial benefits which flow from sound investment and estate planning; these may include an increased stream of income, immediate income tax deduction, reduced estate taxes, and/or reduced capital gains taxes on appreciated assets.
Examples of planned charitable donations include
Bequest A gift by will that designates a specific portion or asset of your estate to pass to The Carter Center. Click here for more information on bequests.
Charitable Gift Annuity Governed by a simple agreement, a gift annuity provides a guaranteed stream of income —some of which may be tax-free — to you and/or a loved one for your lifetimes in exchange for your gift. The rate of income is based on your age — the older you are, the higher the annuity rate. The amount remaining passes to The Carter Center. Click here for more information on annuities.
Charitable Remainder Trusts When you set up a charitable remainder trust, you establish a percentage or dollar amount of income that you will receive each year for your lifetime or a designated period of years, at the end of which the assets remaining in the trust would pass to The Carter Center. Click here for more information on trusts.
IRAs The Carter Center can be named as the primary, secondary, or partial beneficiary of an individual retirement account on the beneficiary designation form for that account. Click here for more information on IRAs.
Life Insurance You can name The Carter Center as a beneficiary (and owner, if you choose) of an existing life insurance policy. Policies can also be purchased to benefit The Carter Center. Click here for more information on gifts of insurance.
Carter Legacy Circle To express its gratitude to those who make planned gifts, The Carter Center offers memberships in the Carter Legacy Circle. Members enjoy special privileges and recognition.
With members' permission, their names are listed in each annual report. Members will receive updates on Center activities around the world, including President Carter's personal trip reports on his international missions.
Once a year, President and Mrs. Carter host a presidential reception and executive briefing for the Carter Legacy Circle. This unique event begins with briefings from senior Carter Center experts, where members can discuss, ask questions, and get an inside look at the forces shaping our work and our future. Members are then honored by President and Mrs. Carter at a reception. It is a rare opportunity to meet other Carter Center supporters and receive the personal thanks of the Carters and the Center staff.
