 This world map shows the status of Guinea worm disease eradication around the world. The World Health Organization is the only body that can certify a disease as elimination from a country or eradication from the world. Currently, 181 countries have been certified Guinea worm disease-free; this includes six formerly endemic countries that have eliminated Guinea worm, eight endemic countries under pre-certification for eliminating the disease, and six that remain endemic.
