Statement by Jimmy Carter on the Death of Peru Former President Fernando Belaunde Terry

Atlanta, GA…Rosalynn and I lament the passing of Fernando Belaunde Terry, a friend and colleague. Former President Belaunde was a man of honor who restored democracy in Peru. We served together as presidents, and as former presidents we worked together in the Council of President and Prime Ministers of the Americas, headquartered at The Carter Center, to promote peace and democracy in the hemisphere. We will miss him and his late wife, Violeta.
