Raquel Lovato: Ending Onchocerciasis in EcuadorEcuador recently became the second country to stop transmission of river blindness—or onchocerciasis—as part of the Carter Center's efforts to end transmission of the debilitating fly-borne disease throughout the Americas by 2012.  Through health education and drug distribution, seven of the original 13 endemic areas in Latin America have interrupted transmission.  Join Raquel Lovato, technical coordinator of the country's onchocerciasis program, as she conducts post-treatment surveillance to verify the disease's elimination in Ecuador.
