Women and Trachoma
Seventy-five percent of the world's population blinded by trachoma are women, who—with their families and communities—are profoundly impacted when they are stricken by the preventable disease. The Carter Center's Trachoma Control Program, in partnership with international organizations and ministries of health, is helping improve sanitation and personal hygiene and distributing antibiotics—all in an effort to eliminate blinding trachoma from six African countries.
