Civil Society Organizations in LiberiaRe-establishing the rule of law is a critical element of rebuilding post-war Liberia. However, many Liberians, particularly those living in rural areas, are unaware of the law. Since 2006, The Carter Center—with Liberia's Ministry of Justice—has provided small grants to local civil society organizations in five counties in Southeast Liberia as well as Bong, Nimba, and Lofa counties, which use drama, community forums, radio programming, and music to educate Liberians about their rights under the law and legal grievance channels.
A nongovernmental organization, The Carter Center has helped to improve life for people in more than 70 countries by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy and human rights; preventing diseases; and improving mental health care.
