The Carter Center was founded in 1982 by former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn. For 25 years, through its health programs, The Carter Center has built hope and given new life to more than 120 million people worldwide.

The Carter Center, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, in partnership with Emory University, to advance peace and health worldwide. A nongovernmental organization, the Center has helped to improve life for people in more than 70 countries by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy and human rights; preventing diseases; improving mental health care; and teaching farmers to increase crop production.
