ATLANTA....The political crisis in Myanmar has reached alarming proportions this week. Peaceful demonstrations led by religious leaders who desire justice, freedom, and democracy have been met by brutal force from the military government, the extent of which is not yet known.
The international community collectively calls on the military government immediately to halt the use of violence against its own citizens. Political prisoners and protesters detained for exercising their right of peaceful assembly should be released, and steps should be taken to restore the basic rights of the people.
