Kenneth Stein, Ph.D.
Fellow, Middle East
A Carter Center fellow for Middle East affairs since 1983, Dr. Stein is the William E. Schatten professor of contemporary Middle Eastern history, political science, and Israeli studies at Emory University. He is also director of the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel and Middle East Research Program at Emory College.
Dr. Stein is the author of "The Land Question in Palestine, 1917-1939," " Heroic Diplomacy: Sadat, Kissinger, Carter, Begin and the Quest for Arab-Israeli Peace," and "Making Peace Among Arabs and Israelis: Fifty Years of Negotiating Experience."
His academic interests and scholarly publications focus on the 20th century Palestine, contemporary Arab politics, modern Israel, Europe, the United States and the Middle East, the Arab-Israeli peace process, and U.S. foreign policy toward the region.
Dr. Stein was the first director of The Carter Center (1983-1986). At Emory, he has earned numerous teaching awards. Dr. Stein received his bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College and advanced academic degrees from the University of Michigan.
