What happens when a pillar of the community who has helped thousands now needs full-time compassionate help from others? My Mama Joe, Hope & Help is a documentary film whose central character is a former community champion living with dementia. The story intersects personal narrative with broader themes of aging, health, and caregiving. Rosalynn Carter Journalism Fellow of the 2018-19 fellowship cohort Christine Herman is the health editor for this film, which features director of the Carter Center’s Mental Health Program, Dr. Eve Byrd, and former chief executive officer of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers, Dr. Jennifer Olsen. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Monica Parker, Belinda Jennings, Dr. Eve Byrd, Christine Herman, Ph.D., and film director and producer Dr. Herb Caldwell.
