Atlanta, GA….Former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter today dedicated the Lee and Harold Kapelovitz Pavilion at The Carter Center. The Carters recognized Mr. and Mrs. Kapelovitz at a ceremony naming one of the Center's four pavilions after them in honor of their outstanding support of the organization's humanitarian work.
"I have known Lee and Harold Kapelovitz for more than 25 years, and there are no two more compassionate people on the face of the earth," President Carter said. "Rosalynn and I are honored to recognize their extraordinary commitment to our work by naming The Carter Center's central pavilion after them."
Mr. and Mrs. Kapelovitz, currently of Beverly Hills, CA., supported Jimmy Carter's 1976 campaign for President by garnering political support in their home state of Colorado. During the campaign, they became close friends of the Carters and continued to support their humanitarian work after they left the White House.
The nonprofit Carter Center was founded by Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in 1982 to prevent and resolve conflict, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve health in neighborhoods and nations around the world. The Center is located in four circular pavilions in a 35-acre park two miles from downtown Atlanta. These buildings house offices for President and Mrs. Carter and most of the Center's program staff. The complex includes the nondenominational Cecil B. Day Chapel and, now, the Lee and Harold Kapelovitz Pavilion.
