Empowerment through Information

Through its groundbreaking Inform Women, Transform Lives campaign, The Carter Center partners with city leaders worldwide to raise awareness about women’s right to access information and to help cities reach women with valuable information and essential municipal services.

Access to this information empowers women with a stronger voice, enabling them to participate in public life, utilize public services, and make more informed decisions for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The project launched in 2021, with 13 inaugural cities selected to work with the campaign. Buenos Aires, Argentina, was one of those inaugural cities. In 2025, this campaign expanded to include Rosario, Argentina.

Legacy

Building Understanding

In preparation for an April 1997 meeting, “Agenda for the Americas for the 21st Century,” a delegation of Carter Center representatives – including former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter – went on a fact-finding mission, during which they met with Argentina President Carlos Menem and other government officials.

The Carter Center’s Council of Presidents and Prime Ministers of the Americas later urged 42 heads of government – current and former, representing more than 20 Latin American governments – to sign a pledge accepting a two-year moratorium on purchasing sophisticated weapons.
