In Yemen, The Carter Center worked with ministries of health to eliminate Guinea worm disease, which it accomplished in 1997, and then worked to control trachoma from 1998-2003.
Impact
- Helped stop Guinea worm disease transmission in 1997, before the country was certified as Guinea worm-free in 2004
- Promoted improvements in health and hygiene to stem trachoma infection.
