Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation (DM&E)

    The DM&E intern will support an exciting new strategic focus at The Carter Center to further improve our technical infrastructure and organizational practices.

Overview

The Carter Center embraces an organization-wide focus on design, monitoring, and evaluation. DM&E researches, tests, and integrates good practices that align with the approach and culture of The Carter Center. Disseminating resources, designing and delivering training, maximizing technology, and coaching are key approaches to supporting DM&E across the Center. DM&E balances support between organization-wide endeavors and program/project specific interventions.

The Carter Center has recently elevated DM&E practices making it a strategic focus for the entire organization. The DM&E intern will be at the forefront of this work assisting in the development of technical infrastructure and organizational practices that will undergird DM&E practices.

A typical work week is 20-40 hours.

Number of Interns per Semester: 1

Applicant Preferences:

  • Knowledge and practical application of program/project design, monitoring and evaluation
  • Academic background or interest in peace building, international relations, or global health
  • Strong research skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; training, instructional design, or facilitation skills is helpful
  • Attention to detail
  • Comfort with technology including a capacity to learn new applications quickly; SharePoint experience a plus

Typical Projects:

  • Research good practice and make recommendations on Carter Center adoption
  • Identify resources and tools that support Carter Center practices
  • Create a library of resources within the Center’s SharePoint
  • Develop data capturing tools and workflow methods within the Center’s SharePoint
  • Experiment with tools, including web and other technologies, that support and further DM&E practices
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of training and knowledge sharing activities
