September 11 Anniversary: A Statement From Former President Carter

STATEMENT FROM FORMER U.S. PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE SEPTEMBER 11 TERRORIST ATTACKS

Atlanta….During the past year, we have seen the strength and resilience of our nation in the face of the unconscionable acts of last September. Other nations of the world have banded together with us to preserve justice and freedom.

As our wounds have healed, our vision has expanded, enabling us to better understand the lives and views of our neighbors in other countries. Even in the face of potential harm, the United States must lead the fight to secure human rights for all peoples, to ease the suffering of the oppressed, and to create a world that cherishes peace and freedom as its highest values.
